DIY : Improve XP Shutdown Speed

This tweak reduces the time XP waits before automatically closing any running programs when you give it the command to shutdown.
  1. click Start>Run, and type regedit
  2. find ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ Desktop’Select ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’
  3. right click and select ‘Modify’
  4. change the value to ‘1000′ and click ‘OK’
  5. now select ‘HungAppTimeout’
  6. right click and select ‘Modify’
  7. change the value to ‘1000′ and click ‘OK’
  8. now find ‘HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\ Control Panel\Desktop’
  9. select ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’
  10. right click and select ‘Modify’
  11. change the value to ‘1000′
  12. click ‘OK’
  13. now find ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ System\CurrentControlSet\Control’
  14. select ‘WaitToKillServiceTimeout’
  15. right click and select ‘Modify’
  16. change the value to ‘1000′
  17. click ‘OK’
Give it a try and you can see a noticeable speed if you follow the steps correctly :)
