Need for Speed Series to be Suspended

Recession hit US so badly until EA plans to put an end for Need for Speed series due to financial crisis. According to the Electronic Playground, EA has canceled all Need for Speed production after the failure of Need for Speed Undercover. If you realized Need for Speed series lost it’s ‘mojo’ ever since Most Wanted going to downhill.

However, let’s wait for the official announcement from EA.

Half Life Recreated in Source Engine

At the age of 15 the first game I was played in my Windows 98 desktop is Half Life. I glued myself on chair and playing the game for hours, stops only when shouted by my mom. Only God knows how many times I played the game.
Recently I stumbled a very cool teaser trailer of Half Life in Source engine. It's a complete recreation (a *mod made by guys from Black Mesa) of Half Life into Source engine. The storyline remain unchanged except the graphics. The graphics almost like Half Life 2 and I guess it's more realistic than Half Life 2.

The mod is still under development but worth to wait. Till then Half Life fans watch the teaser trailer after the jump.

p/s: After this I want to see Half Life in live action movie or at least in animation with graphics quality equals to Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.

Is Your PC Able to Run Your Favorite Game?

Nowadays PC games improving in fast pace until one need to upgrade their *machine frequently. Game developers no longer develop game based on current technologies instead they keep on pushing boundaries to make their game superior than the current games in market. Remember Crysis when it was released? Even though the game is playable in *ultimate gaming rig, the game was still unable to play in full settings. Remember Crysis is not only in this list. So, before you waste your cash by buying the game and knock your head later to found out you machine unable to support the game even in minimum requirement you need to do a little research. As an example like me, I always Google the game's minimum requirement and then only I decide to buy it. However, there is another method which is more reliable.

Can You Run It helps you to find out whether YOUR machine can run the game or not . It's an online requirement calculation tool that inspects your computer's hardware and configuration settings whether it will be able to handle the graphics of the game. A report will be provided in the end of inspection, enlist detailed explanation on which hardware can support the game and vice versa so, you can upgrade it individually (if needed).

It's really simple to use: select the game you want to check and wait for 2-3 minutes while the software analyses (probably need to install ActiveX for their propierty Java app to run, to do so). I did tried for the game Hitman: Blood Money, and as expected my graphic card unable to support besides that, for better understanding a simple graph available and it shows my notebook not even support the minimum requirement lol.

*machine - CPU? Computer? Erm basically a computer that you use to play games.

*ultimate gaming rig - a gaming computer with latest hardware in the market and highly tweaked for solely gaming purposes only.

GG Client: Play DotA Online

This might be a really outdated news or whatever it is but, I just found out about couple of weeks ago. Few of you might knew that I'm a DotA die hard fan but does not mean I'm not a pro either. I playing for my own satisfaction with my KJ friends. For those, who wondering what the heck is DotA - it is actually an abbreviation for Defense of the Ancients: a custom scenario map for Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne and it's famous around the world. Now, I'm not going to give a speech about DotA origin or whatsoever - if you want to know more about DotA head to here.

To play DotA, you need at least one opponent - max is 5 vs 5 and trust me it's more the merrier. The DotA authors did create maps with AI (Artificial Intelligence) for lone gamers and no matter how strong it is, one would not have the feel as playing with the humans. That's why the gamers burning the midnight oil+cash playing at the cybercafes. If you want to play at home, you can play in LAN among friends and you can play online only IF you have genuine copy of Warcraft and Battle.net account and who want to buy RM150++ worth game, right? So how you going to play DotA in LAN if you are a lone gamer or online if you using pirate copy?

Blueserver? That was smart. Sad to say, the registeration had been closed due to increase case of *leaver . What the heck? Just fricking ban those *noobs. However, I read (kinda unsure about the source) that to create an account in Blueserver you need to register on Sunday using Streamyx account. Hm, thats frickin' wierd right? Register on Sunday? FengShui? Whateverrr. In spite of that, I did tried using my friend's account to play and almost made his account to banned because left the game halfway (the game was *lagging actually). Frustrated, don't know what to do - I just simply Googled 'online DotA' and suprisingly found a positive answer and it's about GG Client.

Read short description assure its not some stupid spyware, downloaded and installed. Create an account and read briefly how to play DotA and login. After that, clicked on 'Local Area Network' and suprisingly saw few LAN games there, browsed for DotA and click Join. Guess what I was playing like crazy and can't stop cursing myself for not Googled GG Client before (I know, I know it's a bit drama queen sort of. I'm just excited).

GG Client is a platform that let's players to connect and play with a good latency thus turn the Internet into a huge cybercafe. I do experience lags and that depends on host - if the host have stable Internet connection and did proper tunneling (tunneling?I don't either. It's like reduce the lagsin game). GGClient not only supports LAN games for Warcraft 3 but supports Counter-Strike, Age of Empire, Sudden Strike, StarCraft and Call of Duty. If you interested to know more, just head to GG Client Forum.

*leaver - gamer that leave the game halfway
*noob - newbie
*lag - (slang) is a symptom where the result of an action appears later than expected.

Its Diablo 3 Behind the Splash Screen at Blizzard Site

Half an hour ago, after had 2 hour sleep I woke up and switch on my laptop after my housemate informed me that the Internet connection had been fixed. After that, eagerly clicked on Firefox icon on my desktop and typed 'www.blizzard.com' to see what is the latest update from Blizzard team. I had been following the updates for past few days. All the while, I was wishing it could be Warcraft IV and now it shattered (wow emo). It is finally revealed that the Diablo 3 was behind that splash screen. Don't get me wrong I still like Diablo but I love Warcraft :)

Watch the Diablo's Cinematic trailer after the jump:

Besides that, watch the Barbarian and Witch Doctor gameplay as well.

Is Splash Screen in Blizzard Site Revealed?

I came across news with new teaser from Blizzard with unsolved with icy look alike splash screen at the Blizzard site. What announcement could Blizzard going to give now? Could it be a new Diablo game or ice from the Frozen Throne or mineral from StarCraft. StarCraft? Isn't it too early too announce the expansion pack? However, according to WorldOfWar website they manage to crack down the mystery behind the icy wallpaper.

One of their reader found an image that shows the rune which is clearly visible in the new splash screen from Blizzard is a dead ringer for a rune seen on Arthas' sword, Frostmourne in another picture. Head to WorldOfWar for the picture.

I wish it could be WarCraft, an offline version continuation of Frozen Throne. The fight is not over Arthas :)

NFS ProStreet Demo: Review

This is not the official review, just my own personal thoughts after recently played the demo. In general, this game felt a little bit different compared to previous EA's Need For Speed series. The cars seems to handle a bit tight, not wobbly like in Carbon, thanks to EA's physics engineers (i think). It seems that EA is bringing ProStreet more to realism, with the lack of things such as Speed Breaker which was introduced in Most Wanted. This means that you have to be "careful" when driving, and any mistake will end up in totaling your car.

One more thing, you also need to use your nitrous boost wisely since it came in "shots" which is triggered by just pressing your nitrous button, not holding it like the previous versions. If your car have 3 shots, then you can only use it 3 times and that's it. No more refilling during a race. I'm not sure how to increase the number of shots, but maybe we'll find it out in the full release.

In the demo, there's only two types of race and one event for each type; Grip Racing (round the track) and Speed Challenge in the Nevada Desert. In Grip, you'll be provided with a 2008 Nissan GT-R, and required to be the first to complete 2 laps. In Speed Challenge, you'll be driving a 2008 BMW E92 M3 in a long stretch of road, and required to accumulate the highest speed at checkpoints like Speed Trap in Most Wanted and Carbon.

NFS ProStreet really requires a high-performance PC for you to enjoy all of the bells and whistles. I've played the demo on a friend's PC (my laptop didn't even support Carbon. hehe) with Athlon 64 X2 2800+ 2.0GHz, GeForce 7900GS and 1GB of DDR-2 667 RAM, and the gameplay looks a little choppy in full settings. I have to pull down some of the settings such anti-aliasing, effects and filtering for it to run smoothly.

Street Fighter 4 Announced

Being an one time gamer, I used to play quite number of games back then and one of it is Street Fighter which finally turned out to be my favourite game and comic.

Recently, Capcom has confirmed the development of Street Fighter 4 at an event in London. Very little solid information about the game has been given, not even the platforms upon which the game will appear. A stylized trailer of Ken and Ryu fighting was show, but no actual gameplay footage
cry.

FIFA '08 Demo Out

The FIFA '08 demo has finally released after a long wait. Actually I don't like FIFA and instead I don't even know to play it. It's not my type of game, hm sort of.

In the demo version, you will get the chance to play as 7 major teams, like Man U, Barcelona or AC Milan. The gameplay experience has been improved and the players are now able to make hundreds of decisions per second. No more glitchy camera and public, as FIFA '08 graphics are now much more realistic. Besides that, the team roster have been updated, so there's no point in transferring players around in order to get a decent simulation.

Minesweeper The Movie

I was came across by that title when I was surfing Internet few days ago, thought it could be waste of time so I ignored it. Then why I put it in my site now? Hehe, I finally watched it after every bloggers put it on their site and commented how funny it is.

Trust me I was surfing Internet in one of the faculty in my campus at 2am. I was laughing like hell when I watching the movie until my friend who came with me afraid of me (imagine suddenly burst in laugh at 2am and please don't ask why I'm online at 2am in campus.) Actually, it was a nice standard clip they made based on Minesweeper, Windows classic game.

Okay enough with my comment, you watch it and rate it - Minesweeper The Movie.

GTA 4 Second Teaser Trailer

Rockstar has released yet another video that’s guaranteed to tease the GTA fans. The trailer this time round is called "Looking for that special someone" and it shows Nicko Bellic, the protagonist going through all sorts of trouble to find that special someone. Rockstar was kind enough to elaborate on a couple of facts in a press release that accompanied the video and they go something like this:
  • All footage is captured in real-time on a next generation gaming console.
  • Running on Rockstar’s proprietary next generation game engine, R.A.G.E., allowing for an unprecedented level of realism and interactivity.
  • Game is using euphoria, a fully procedural animation package created by NaturalMotion.
  • Song is by New York City based band The Boggs and is titled "Arm In Arm (Shy Child Remix)"

NFS Pro Street in Depth

Yeah, back again with Need for Speed Pro Street news and this time few detailed information about the game. NFS fan sure knew that NFS Pro Street is different than any other NFS series before. So, what are the difference/s the EA is/are talking about? This game has a totally new driving experience, new game modes and new features. The game takes place in closed tracks, so there is no open world anymore.

Basically, the main new features are damage, physics and smoke. All three things are highly evolved,

Damage:

The game is all about damage, you have to watch out that you don’t wreck your car, because repairing is expensive.

The damage model are realistic - bumpers and tires can fall off, windows break, hoods fly away and based on the material (metal, glass, plastic or carbon) it gets scratches or breaks. All the damage is calculated on-the-fly, so it doesn’t look always the same. It even depends on how fast you hit a wall; the car will be damaged based on many parameters. The damage will affect your car performance. The more you crash your car, the slower you will get. If you crash your car too much, the race is over.

Locations:

The tracks in Need for Speed Pro Street are based on locations, which exist in the real world. EA did a lot of research and took many photos to make the tracks look as realistic as possible. As the player you travel all around the world to participate at the race events. Each event is hosted by different organizations, so it will always have a different style.

Game modes:

There are 4 game modes in Need for Speed Pro Street: GRIP, Drift, Drag and Speed Challenge. For every game mode, you will have your personal car, which is perfectly balanced for this type of race. EA didn’t talk much about the game modes in the game, but so far:

GRIP will be like the circuit mode, where you race a certain number of laps.

Drift mode will be different than in NFS Carbon, because of the new car physics. To extend accessibility, Electronic Arts built in “assists”, which will help you steering the car and staying on the track. If you turn off all the assists, it’s more for the hardcore gamers and the game will be more like simulation – it is more real.

Drag mode returns, but there is no information yet, what will be different.

Speed Challenge (new mode), which is mainly a really long track, where you can push your car to the limits. At highest speeds you race down a straight road, with almost no curves. But once you try to steer, you have to watch out not to get off the road, because that high speed can be dangerous…

Driving:

We have the possibility to drive with assists on or off.

Switch assists off – the car is not easy to handle and it’s more realistic, due to the new physics. This time you can drive the way you like.

Switch assists on –for “arcade-style” gameplay and it is easier to drive, just as you’re used to it from older NFS titles. Need for Speed Pro Street still stays between a simulation- and arcade-game and this is how it should be.

A big affect on the driving experience will have the customization.

Cars:

There will be more cars than in any other Need for Speed games – cars from around 26 manufacturers, there will be 8 “super-cars”, which we will be able to tune to the high-end.

Customization:

The customization is a BIG PART in Need for Speed Pro Street.

Visual styling – Autosculpt, we already know from NFS Carbon. But this time it’s much more detailed and can autosculpt almost any part of the car. The best thing is: The visual tuning of our car will affect the performance. For this reason EA built in for example a wind tunnel, where we can test our new car design, if it fits our needs.

Performance tuning ¬ EA introduced different layers of modifications. First layer, the “arcade-style” people can upgrade their cars by just using predefined upgrade packages. If we want to go deeper though, there is a whole world of possibilities. We can change almost everything, parts of the engine, brakes, tires…there are 90+ individual part slots and 30+ tuning variables. Since there is so much concentration on the customization, EA introduced a new feature called “blue prints”. We don’t have to build in every part we want immediately; we can save our tuning combinations as a blue print. So we can create our ideal combination of parts, and only if we apply the blue print to our car, they’re going to be built in.

Graphics:

The cars are designed to look more photo-real, not as in NFS Carbon. The lights reflects as it should, even based on the material, the damage model is very detailed too.

A big new graphical feature in this game is the smoke! In almost every racing game, the smokes the tires make looked very primitive or are even 2D textures. The smoke looks damn good. Especially when doing a burnout or drifting around it’s very important that it feels as real as possible. And it really does with the smoke, which was made with Shader Model 3.0.

Music:

As in every Need for Speed game the music is very important. This time EA got Junkie XL to create some tracks, which are playing during the game. Depending on which event you’re participating, you’ll listen to different music styles, like for example Hard Rock, Techno, Electronic or Punk. These styles are connected with the organizations, who set up these events.

Apart from Junkie XL there will be also other music from licensed artists.
