Pimp Your Desktop Pt. 1

Finally, I manage to post this article which was abandoned for a long time. Its took time for me to find information and wait for the latest release of my favorite theme Vista Transformation Pack 7 (read further to know more about it). In this post, I would like to share few tips and themes that can make your desktop fancier and interesting than before plus safe and worth to try.

Vista Theme

Ever since the Microsoft announced their latest OS, Windows Vista, lots of Vista like theme flooded Internet – some failed miserably some not. For those who look for Vista like theme, here you are:

Vista Transformation Pack (VTP)

The theme is developed by Windows X, the latest version is Vista Transformation Pack 7 which was officially released yesterday. Quite number of add-ons had been added in this latest version such as:

  • ViOrb – perfect round Vista like Start Menu button.
  • ViStart – Vista like Start Menu (almost perfect)
  • Vista Sidebar – Vista like Sidebar with Vista Gadgets.
  • Visual ToolTips – for thumbnails features on taskbar.
  • Styler – replace the standar buttons (back, forward etc) to Vista like.

Right now, I using VTP 7 and it look nice with cool ad-dons – I feel like using Windows Vista hee ;p. However, you may face minor difficulties when installing VTP 7 due to Windows Hotfix that might installed in your PC. Just let me know if you face any problems regarding VTP 7 or you can go to VTP 7 website (Windowsxlive.net).

By the way, besides VTP you also may try Universal Vista Inspirat Brico Pack Utlimate and VistaMizer. VistaMizer theme is lack in certain features compared to VTP but its still worth trying it. However, Universal Brico Pack Vista is not a pure Vista theme – its mixture of Mac OSX theme and little bit of Vista theme such as its icon.

i've been using ViStart b4, n it's the beta4 (if not mistaken). it looks very nice, almost perfect compared to the actual one. somehow it tends to crash on its own (dunno y) and have some conflict with Yahoo Widget especially when you set a widget to b on top of other wndows. for example, when i set my battery bar widget on top, it works fine. then when i click the start button and the ViStart appears, the widget only appear on the desktop. if these probs got settled, it'll be another best addition for VTP

But I guess I din face such prob..however, there is few flaws such as..certain programs invisible in ViStart (its not listed there), right click function not working i guess ;p..hey its still cool to have one in your destop ;p

about the right click i thnk it's normal for a 3rd party software to be like dat. i remember using XP start menu when i'm still using win98, the same happen.

i also found out that if u want 2 remove any items from ViStart, in my case the recent items, you have to go the program folder and look for settings (i think it's .xml) and open using notepad. look for the string that says "recent items" and just delete the whole line

flyakite OSX is the best mac-look-alike theme around. it's so good, even my friend who was a mac user got fooled at the first glance. i like it very much, but there's some performance issues. the dock alone took quite some amount of memory and processing power. i would not recommend it to those who got Celerons and <512MB ram...

Yup i do agree with you rihuhs..by the way, rihuhs did you try VTP 7?

Novinthen said...

well.. below 512 MB i think they better forget about loading ny theme! but Vi and Fly A Kite is surelly far much better then Vista.. duh...

k3sh said...

Yeah..
But, using Flyakite theme feels like its more 'faster' den the other theme..its like not lag the system..thats the cool thing about it..

i've already got vtp7, but not yet installed. i think i'm gonna reformat my laptop 1st, for best result. i don't want it to get mixed up with vtp6. that'll make me unable to tell the difference

The developer of VTP 7 advised to uninstall the KB925++ update (refer their website) den restart..after that uninstall VTP 6 and install a fresh VTP 7..
