NFS ProStreet Demo: Review

This is not the official review, just my own personal thoughts after recently played the demo. In general, this game felt a little bit different compared to previous EA's Need For Speed series. The cars seems to handle a bit tight, not wobbly like in Carbon, thanks to EA's physics engineers (i think). It seems that EA is bringing ProStreet more to realism, with the lack of things such as Speed Breaker which was introduced in Most Wanted. This means that you have to be "careful" when driving, and any mistake will end up in totaling your car.

One more thing, you also need to use your nitrous boost wisely since it came in "shots" which is triggered by just pressing your nitrous button, not holding it like the previous versions. If your car have 3 shots, then you can only use it 3 times and that's it. No more refilling during a race. I'm not sure how to increase the number of shots, but maybe we'll find it out in the full release.

In the demo, there's only two types of race and one event for each type; Grip Racing (round the track) and Speed Challenge in the Nevada Desert. In Grip, you'll be provided with a 2008 Nissan GT-R, and required to be the first to complete 2 laps. In Speed Challenge, you'll be driving a 2008 BMW E92 M3 in a long stretch of road, and required to accumulate the highest speed at checkpoints like Speed Trap in Most Wanted and Carbon.

NFS ProStreet really requires a high-performance PC for you to enjoy all of the bells and whistles. I've played the demo on a friend's PC (my laptop didn't even support Carbon. hehe) with Athlon 64 X2 2800+ 2.0GHz, GeForce 7900GS and 1GB of DDR-2 667 RAM, and the gameplay looks a little choppy in full settings. I have to pull down some of the settings such anti-aliasing, effects and filtering for it to run smoothly.
