Having more than one partition is a good idea especially in case of emergency. In case you have to format your hard disk, only you know how hard it is to look for back external hard disk to back up your data. For Vista user there is an integrated tool to resize your partition hard disk. In a situation where most of the Vista installed notebooks came with only one partition (as I seen) this might became handy.
- Click Start and right click on Computer and click Manage.
- A pop up window will appear. On the left window, select Disk Management under Storage
- Select the partition you want to resize, then right click it and select Shrink Volume
- Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB. However, the partition which Vista sits on must be at least 30GB to be safe.
- After resizing is done, there will be another partition, which needs to be reformatted in order to use it. Right –click the unallocated partition and click New Simple Volume.
- Follow through the setup wizard. You will be asked to assign the drive letter, format the partition, and specify the volume size. That’s all.
